Sake Brewery Tour Continued

sake sake!

Hey everyone. Last Tuesday (on my only day off for the last few weeks) I went on a Sake brewery tour with a few friends and enjoyed many a free sample before heading out to Harbourland for an Indian feast. It was abloody great day. The funniest place we went to was the second brewery, just a little "mom and pop" place. it was closing up for the day, but we deftly took advantage of the two factors at our disposal:
1: Japanese people are generally too polite to refuse anyone anything directly.
2: They didn't speak any English and would therefore have been hard put to explain they were closed with all of the perfuntory linguistic embellishments that make up a Japanese apology.
So invited in we were, and to the delight of our reluctant host's husband, who showed us the inner workings of his very makeshift business. We saw steaming drums of Sake brewing, countless rust vats of fermenting sake and we drank. Upon discovering it was Pavla's birthday, our affable guide went straight for the hard stuff "Hey Canada!" he cried as he plied us with shot after shot of "free samples". Apparently he thought we were all Canadian, or something. It was hilarious. Poor Sarah, who's tiny, stumbled out of there slurring and madly stumbling towards the next sake stopover. I, on the other hand, was nothing if not dignified. A rarity and something of which I will remain proud until the next time I make an arse of myself in public.

To All the Mothers and Soon-To-Be Mothers

Well, as Heather's big day fast approaches, I'm reminded of all the mothers I know and just how amazing they all are in their own ways. First (of course), there's my own mum, who has consistently and constantly put her children first in her life, despite our occassional lapse in gratitude she's made countless sacrifices on our behalf. Secondly, there's the incredible Kelly who has created her very own family unit (from scratch!) and now proceeds to dazzle Adelaide Uni with her business accumen (dammit, 2 c's or not?). Thirdly there's the very recent addition to the brigade Erica, who has managed to produce the cutest little bundle of offspring I've seen for a while. Good luck Heath and Erica, enjoy the ride! Then there's Jo, wow, can't be long now huh? You must be ready to burst. I wish you all the best. Speaking of bursting, we come to the last, but not least, subject of my Ode: Heather. Heather, you're going to be a fabulous mother and my only regret is that I won't be there to see the little Dather for his first months (it's so cute when they can't hold up their own head). I think about you and the impending birth all the time (well, not the goopy bits, that's just gross). I know you'll keep that Dather in line, just like you've kept us all in line over the years. I miss you and I wish you the very very best for the upcoming weeks, which I'm sure will be memorable to say the least. Respect to da muddas!
